So today marks the first day of our amended itinerary.
.
The original plan was to sail to Regensberg, Germany, where we were to take an excursion to the Weltenberg Abbey (with promises of beer and pretzls) which included a tour on a smaller boat ride through the Danube Narrows. Sadly, the low water level made that side trip impossible, too.
.
All 190 guests on the Viking Egil disembarked this morning and said good-bye to the ship, the captain, and the staff. We boarded a bus and drove to the city of Nuremberg in Germany, where we would have landed on Friday. The bus trip was four hours long.
.
We had lunch all together in a traditional German restaurant with beer, sausage, saukraut, and ice cream. Then we were dropped off at the Nurenberg Hilton outside of town.
.

Above, Kerry is making a wish at the statue fountain in the Main Square. Three times clockwise and your wish comes true! I made my own wish but time will tell if it comes true.
.

.
The fountain above is quite well known- the evolution of love and marriage. It is very detailed and complicated and a bit horrifying, chronicling a woman and man through their dating, marriage, and death (or murder, it looks like to me).
.

.
The "Ehekarussell" as it is called, by Jurgen Weber, has been quite controversial ever since it was first installed in 1981. That said, tourists continue to flock to the site in front of the Town Hall to witness the lurid human and animal figures. Slate's "Hidden Obscura" deems it one of the world's hidden wonders. It is wonder-full, I'll say that.
.

.
We also walked along the river and over the Chain Bridge. What a charming city this is!

We had some free time before taking the bus back to the hotel where we dined al fresco with our fellow Viking Warriors. Everyone is in good spirits, making the most of the change in our planned vacation. Oliver the ship director stopped by and was greeted warmly and appreciatively for all his efforts. The Hilton buffet was fine and the bar was open, but we sure do miss that ship.
