Exploring the Ring of Kerry

On Wednesday, Steve, Sarah, Sally, and I set off in the morning to explore the Ring of Kerry on the Iveragh Peninsula. We drove off the Dingle peninsula, stopping at the famous Inch Beach (pictured above) with Sammy's Surf Shop, then drove the perimeter of the Inveragh Peninsula on the beautiful scenic drive known as the Ring of Kerry.

In the image above, both Sally and Sarah are wearing sweaters they bought in Dingle!

On this map, you can see the town of Glenbeigh, where we stayed for a week with John and Kerry in 2012. We had the most stunning view of Dingle Bay from our rental house, which is now the reverse for us in Dingle! On both trips, we ate at The Bridge Bar in Portmagee, way down on the tip of the peninsula.

Originally, we were hoping to plan a day trip out to the Skelligs for this trip. Sadly, reservations are very limited and were all booked by the time we attempted to reserve spots. So instead, we viewed the stunning Skelligs from the three mile distance from the end of the peninsula. When the final scene of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was filmed on Skellig Michael, it was kept secret until the film's release. When Steve and I saw the location in the movie in the theater, we were excited about the possibility of making arrangements for the group vacation. Unfortunately for us, Star Wars fever has taken hold of the area making it more difficult than ever to get reservations. Even the lovely Bridge Bar seemed a bit less charming with the new publicity photos and posters hung all around the entrance.

Worth noting is the Irish swimmers in the foreground, who take advantage of every summer day, even as we are sporting our jackets and Irish sweaters!

When we got home, we were treated to a spectacular double rainbow, which sent us all racing out to the back yard, dancing and running about!
