Das Zugspitze

Here is an image of the tree line of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak in the Alps. As we rode the cable car up the mountain, the views became more and more spectacular right up until the clouds took over. The top of the mountain was completely engulfed with very low visibility. The temperature was 1*C (33F). Inside the mountain top facility, the restaurant looked so warm and inviting, the smells from "fondue night" were intoxicating, the sounds of happy Germans laughing and conversing filled the air. But, alas, not for us.

.

We had no view, no tickets for the feast. There was an outside balcony with a tiny beer hut where a few well dressed hikers huddled over their drinks as the clouds blew through. If this was a movie set, I would suggest it lacked verisimilitude.

.

The museum was pretty cool! The first recorded climb was 1820. Lots of pictures, movies, even a 3D exhibit.
