Our last full day is a busy one!
.
We had a lovely lunch with Bernard at Valiene, an outdoor cafe in Reutte. He is so sweet and we spent a couple of hours catching up.
.
Steve went back to work and I got down to the business of shopping! This time, armed with an empty backpack and an urgency of time constraints, I made great progress. The walk back to the hotel was a bit slower with a now heavy backpack (Shnapps can really weigh a girl down) and several shopping bags.
.
How appropriate that we spend our last night with Helmut Sailer and Anna. We went to his house (Berg Sailer!) and sat out on the patio with some snacks and beers. Not surprisingly, Helmut wanted to grill us about the election (at 86, this Yale graduate still reads American news and gets Time magazine delivered) as did Bernard at lunch. Everyone expresses a great concern which began as a mild amusement.

.
And finally, we headed over to the Meullers for our last meal. Carmen cooked up a feast of pork loin, broccolli and potatoes. The kids ran around playing and then each of them asked to go to bed. Leah went first, then little Benny couldn't decide who he wanted to put him to bed. "Mama! No, Papa! Mama!" This little game went on for a bit, until he finally came to a conclusion. "Oncle Steve!"
.
Austrian desserts are legendary, and Carmen went all out tonight. She made a delicious cheesecake kind of thing with baked meringue topping. Fantastic! What a great night with our good friends. Danke Schoen, meine freunde!
