Italian food is delizioso!

We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant, necessitating an elevator and two thrilling funiculars. The sun was just beginning to dip below the mountain peaks as we took our seats at a table overlooking the lake. We had wine and bread, lasagna and eggplant.

Afterwards, we walked down to the village of Varenna. Bellisima! It takes the equivalent of 6-8 staircases of rock and granite steps to get to the lake level. Starting at the south side, there is a promenade which winds through the back alleys, along the water, through the town where there is a boat launch, restaurants and shops, and then along the lake with railings and pergolas. At the end of the promenade is the ferry launch where we turned around and headed back to the village. It was not crowded but there were enough people strolling about to feel festive.

We stopped for some gelato before heading back up the hill to our lofty getaway.
