High above Lake Como

Checking in to Hotel Emero was quite simple. Getting up to the room was less so.

.

We were given three keys. After climbing a set of stairs outside the hotel terrace, we arrived at the first of the two funiculars where we used key number one. We loaded in with our backpacks and suitcases and ascended up the steep slope with breathtaking views of the lake. The doors opened up to another terrace (with stone steps up or down to grassed terraces) and we walked over to funicular number two. This was a shorter ride up the the next level where we walked though another terrace, into another lobby (using key number two) and chapel area, and up a short way to an elevator to the fifth floor where we found our room at the end of the hall. Key three opened the door to a dimly lit, air conditioned room. We dumped the bags, pulled back the curtains, and were greeted with the most spectacular vista! The sun was drenching the balcony, but the warm air was dry and delightful. I could hardly catch my breath as I attempted to get my bearings, high above the lake on this steep mountain cliff, but with plenty of mountain above. The picture shows our room with the door open on the upper left. This was taken from the terrace underneath (where Steve took the sunset picture of me at the bell tower).
